Apollo 15: Feather and Hammer Experience - Apollo 15: David Scott watching hammer and feather fall - David Scott realizes the experience of pen and hammer on the Moon. To confirm the law of the fall of Galilee's bodies, David Scott simultaneously released a geologist's hammer held in his right hand and a falcon feather held in his left hand. Both objects fell almost at the same moment on the lunar ground, 1.2 seconds later. TV picture. August 2, 1971. Astronaut David R. Scott, Apollo 15 commander, watches a geological hammer and a feather hit the lunar surface simultaneously in a test of Galileo's law of motion concerning falling bodies, as seen in this color reproduction taken from a transmission made by the RCA color television camera mounted on the Lunar Roving Vehicle. Scott released the hammer from his right hand and the feather from his left at the same instant. This experiment occured toward the end of the third and final lunar surface extravehicular activity. Control Module Apollo 17 - Apollo 17 command module seen from the LM in orbit. Dec 14 1972 - The control module Apollo 17 photographs from the LEM during the mooring manoeuvres. 14/12/1972. In this view, taken from the Lunar Module (LM), the Command and Service Module (CSM) are seen preparing to rendezvous with the LM. Note the reflection of the lunar surface on the CSM. The CSM, is piloted by Ronald E. Evans; while astronauts Eugene A. Cernan, commander; and Harrison W. Schmitt, lunar module pilot, are onboard the LM, following their Extravehicular Activities (EVA) on the Moon's surface. While astronauts Cernan and Schmitt descended in the LM “” Challenger”” to explore the Taurus - Littrow region of the Moon, astronaut Evans remained with the CSM “” America”” in lunar orbit

This view of the rising Earth greeted the Apollo 8 astronauts as they came from behind the Moon after the lunar orbit insertion burn. Earth is about five degrees above the horizon in the photo. The unnamed surface features in the foreground are near the eastern limb of the Moon as viewed from Earth. The lunar horizon is approximately 780 kilometers from the spacecraft. Width of the photographed area at the horizon is about 175 kilometers. December 22 1968

Apollo 17: decolving the Lem from the lunar surface - Apollo 17: lunar module liftoff - The Challenger lunar module decolves from the Moon. View obtained by the television camera mounted on the lunar jeep, December 14, 1972. The Apollo 17 Lunar Module (LM) “” Challenger”” ascent stage leaves the Taurus - Littrow landing site as it makes its spectacular liftoff from the lunar surface, as seen in this reproduction taken from a color television transmission made by the color RCA TV camera mounted on the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV). The LRV - mounted TV camera, remotely controlled from the Mission Control Center (MCC) in Houston, made it possible for people on Earth to watch the fantastic event. The LM liftoff was at 188:01:36 ground elapsed time, 4:54:36 p.m. (CST), Thursday, Dec. 14, 1972. The LM ascent stage, with astronauts Eugene A. Cernan and Harrison H. Schmitt aboard, returned from the lunar surface to rejoin the Command and Service Modules (CSM) orbiting the moon. Astronaut Ronald E. Evans remained with the CSM in lunar orbit while Cernan and Schmitt explored the moon. The LM descent stage is used as a launching platform and remains behind on the moon. Here, the two stages have completely separated and the ascent stage is headed skyward

The Apollo 16 Lunar Module (LM) “” Orion”” dominates the lunar scene at the Descartes landing site, as seen in the reproduction taken from a color television transmission made by the TV camera mounted on the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV). Astronauts John W. Young, commander; and Charles M. Duke Jr., lunar module pilot; descended in the Apollo 16 LM to explore the Descartes highlands landing site on the moon. Astronaut Thomas K. Mattingly II, command module pilot, remained with the Command and Service Modules (CSM) “” Casper”” in lunar orbit. Note U.S. flag deployed on the left. This picture was made during the second Apollo 16 extravehicular activity (EVA). 22 April 1972

Apollo 11: Sea of Tranquility - Apollo 11: Sea of Tranquility - Apollo 11 07/69 - The shadow of the control module on the Moon, the Maskelyne crater is visible at the bottom of the picture. 20/07/1969. The approach to Apollo Landing Site 2 in southwestern Sea of Tranquility is seen in this photograph taken from the Apollo 11 Lunar Module (LM) in lunar orbit. When this picture was made, the LM was still docked to the Command and Service Modules. Site 2 is located just right of center at the edge of darkness. The crater Maskelyne is the large one at the lower right. Hypatia Rille (U.S.1) is at upper left, with the crater Moltke just to the right (north) of it. Sidewinder Rille and Diamondback Rille extend from left to right across the center of the picture. This view looks generally west
Apollo 15: J. Irwin on the Moon - Jim Irwin works at the LRV during Apollo 15 EVA - 1 - Irwin works near the Lunar Roving Vehicle. 31/07/1971. Astronaut James B. Irwin, lunar module pilot, works at the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) during the first Apollo 15 lunar surface extravehicular activity (EVA) at the Hadley - Apennine landing site (31 July 1971). The Lunar Module (LM) “” Falcon””” is on the left. The undeployed Laser Ranging Reflector (LR - 3) lies atop the LM's modular equipment stowage assembly (MESA). This view is looking slightly west of south. Hadley Delta and the Apennine Front are in the background to the left. St. George crater is approximately five kilometers (about three statute miles) in the distance behind Irwin's head. This photograph was taken by astronaut David R. Scott, commander. Apollo 17: the LEM on the Moon - Apollo 17: Lunar module from a distant view - View of the Lem obtained from station 6, about 3 km from the landing site. Jack Schmitt took this picture of the LM from Station 6 with the 500 - mm lens. Note the lighter surface around the spacecraft, produced by the sweeping action of the descent plume. Station 6 is about 3.1 km from the LM, which is about 7 meters tall. The two large craters beyond the LM with prominent rim boulder fields are probably Hess (left) and Mackin (right), which are both about 6 km from Station 6 on higher ground than the landing site. Each of the craters is about 600 meters in diameter
