Comete Hale - Bopp et observers 01/04/1997 - Comet Hale - Bopp with observers 1 April 1997 - Two boys watch the Comete Hale - Bopp. Two boys watch comet Hale - Bopp on April 1st, 1997
Constellation Cassiopee - The constellation of Cassiopei
Cassiopee Constellation - The constellation of Cassiopeia - Cassiopeia, was seen in mythology as the seated Queen of Ethiopia (not to be confused with the modern AEthiopia). She was the wife of Cepheus and the mother of Andromeda, beautiful but boastful. The grouping of moderately bright stars has a distinctive 'W' shape and lies in a rather faint part of the northern Milky Way. It is circumpolar for latitudes north of 50*. Occupying almost 500 square degrees of sky it is the 25th largest of the 88 modern constellations
Lactee route - Pointe du Raz - Milky Way - Pointe du Raz - The Great Bear is almost entirely masked by the semaphore tower at Pointe du Raz. The “Two Guards” located on the right of the tower point towards the Polar Star, vertical of the antenna. Higher, our eye cuts the lactee path near the zenith. As we descend towards the southern horizon, we can see the Great Galaxy of Andromede and that of the Triangle. Brittany, 27 September 2008. The Big Dipper is almost completely masked by the tower of the semaphore. Its two stars on the right are pointing towards the star Polaris, at the vertical of the antenna. Higher, our eye cross the Milky Way near the zenith. Then, descending towards the South, we can see the Great Andromeda Galaxy and the Triangulum Galaxy. Pointe du Raz, Brittany, 27 September 2008
Remnants of the supernova Cassiopee A in X-rays - visible and infrared - This stunning picture of the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A (Cas A) is a composite of images taken by three of Nasa's Great Observatories. Infrared data from the Spitzer Space Telescope are colored red; optical data from the Hubble Space Telescope are yellow; and X - ray data from the Chandra X - ray Observatory are green and blue. Cas A is the 300 - year - old remnant created by the supernova explosion of a massive star. Each Great Observatory image highlights different characteristics of the remnant. Spitzer reveals warm dust in the outer shell with temperatures of about 10 degrees Celsius (80 degrees Fahrenheit), and Hubble sees the delicate filamentary structures of warmer gases about 10,000 degrees Celsius. Chandra shows hot gases at about 10 million degrees Celsius. This hot gas was created when ejected material from the supernova smashed into surrounding gas and dust at speeds of about ten million miles per hour. A comparison of the infrared and X - ray images of Cas A should enable astronomers to better understand how relatively cool dust grains can coexist in the superhot gas that produces the X - rays. It should also help to determine whether most of the dust in the supernova remnant came from the massive star before it exploded, or from the rapidly expanding supernova ejecta. The turquoise dot at the center of the shell may be a neutron star created during the supernova. Blue Chandra data were acquired using broadband X - rays (low through high energies); green Chandra data correspond only to intermediate energy X - rays; yellow Hubble data were taken using a 900 nanometer - wavelength filter, and red Spitzer data are from the telescope's 24 - micron detector. Observation Dates 9 pointings between Feb 8 - May 5, 2004 Observation Time 11 days, 14 hours Distance Estimate About 10,000 light year

Ursa Major, Polaris and Cassiopeia -
Remains of the supernova Cassiopee - A - Supernova remnant Cassiopeia A - Cassiopee A is the rest of a supernova that exploded about 300 years ago. This image shows the expanding gas shell. From this gas will one day create new stars and planets. Cassiopee - A is located about 10,000 light years away from Earth in the constellation Cassiopee. Image obtained on September 5, 2008 with a telescope measuring 61 cm in diameter. Cassiopeia A (Cas A) is the youngest known remnant from a supernova explosion in the Milky Way. Constellation of Cassiopee and real position of stars - Stars in the constellation of Cassiopeia 3D representation - The constellations are just imaginary drawings made from the stars. Really, the stars of the same constellation are not at the same distance from the Earth observer. The stars within a constellation rarely have any astrophysical relationship to each other. Their apparent proximity when viewed from Earth disguises the fact that they typically lie light years apart
Galaxies Maffei 1 and Maffei 2 in Cassiopee - Maffei Galaxies in Cassiopeia - Maffei 1 (right) is an elliptical galaxy, Maffei 2 (left) is a barree spiral galaxy. These two galaxies are located about 8 million light years away from Earth. Image obtained by the Oschin telescope of Mount Palomar through several filters and composed. The picture show two galaxies lying at 2.5 degrees northeast of h and Chi Persei the famous Double Cluster in Cassiopeia. Although the galaxies has been obstructed by inner galactic matters, their actual sizes are larger than 10 arc minutes, fairly large - sized neighboring galaxies. The Maffei I (on the right) is an elliptic, and the Maffei II (on the left) is classified as a bared galaxy. The galaxies are estimated about 8 million light years away. They were discovered by the Italian astronomer Paolo Maffei in 1968. Now we know about 20 galaxies belonging to Maffei Group. This image is based on data acquired by the Oschin Telescope at the Mount Palomar Observatory

Open cluster NGC 7789 in Cassiopee - Open cluster NGC 7789 in Cassiopeia - The cluster of stars NGC 7789 is located about 7600 years - light from Earth. It contains about 300 stars, including a number of giant red stars. His age is estimated at 1.6 billion years. The open cluster NGC 7789 in Cassiopeia is a bright and richly populated cluster comprised of approximately 300 member stars which are evenly distributed and well detached from the background sky. This cluster lies at a distance of 7620 light - years away with an apparent diameter of 25 '. As indicated by the various red giants in the image, the cluster is advanced in age and which has been estimated to be approximately 1.6 billion years - old
Cephee Constellation - Constellation of Cepheus - At the bottom left, the constellation Cassiopee; at the top, the bright star is the polar star. Cepheus is a representation of King Cepheus of Ethiopia, who has stellar connections, being husband to Cassiopeia and the father of Andromeda. It is a large northern constellation of 588 square degrees, 27th out of 88 in size and is best seen in the early evening in November. It is distinguished by having two unusual stars that are easily seen. Delta Cephei is the prototype for an intrinsically bright class of regularly pulsating variable stars whose period of variability is closely related to their absolute magnitudes. The brightest stars have the longest period, so distance can be estimated by measuring the period and the apparent magnitude of a star. And these stars are bright, so the method can be extended to nearby galaxies. Mu (u) Cephei is an extremely red, irregular variable star easily seen in binoculars. This too is a prototype, of a class of stars known as semi - regular variables
Star Formation in Cassiopee - Star Formation in Cassiopeia - This star-forming region, called W5, is located approximately 6500 light years ago in the constellation Cassiopee. Several generations of stars appear on this cliche; the older ones are the blue stars in the centre of the two cavities; the younger stars are grouped at the edges of these cavities and at the ends of the gas pillars or they appear like pink dots; the white areas are home to the very young stars in formation. In this infrared image, heated dust appears in red, dense gas clouds appear in green. Composite image obtained by the Spitzer space telescope in 2006 and 2007. Generations of stars can be seen in this infrared portrait from Nasa's Spitzer Space Telescope. In this wispy star - forming region, called W5, the oldest stars can be seen as blue dots in the centers of the two hollow cavities (other blue dots are background and foreground stars not associated with the region). Younger stars line the rims of the cavities, and some can be seen as pink dots at the tips of the elephant - trunk - like pillars. The white knotty areas are where the youngest stars are forming. Red shows heated dust that pervades the region's cavities, while green highlights dense clouds. W5 spans an area of sky equivalent to four full moons and is about 6,500 light - years away in the constellation Cassiopeia. The Spitzer picture was taken over a period of 24 hours. Like other massive star - forming regions, such as Orion and Carina, W5 contains large cavities that were carved out by radiation and winds from the region's most massive stars. According to the theory of triggered star - formation, the carving out of these cavities pushes gas together, causing it to ignite into successive generations of new stars. This image contains some of the best evidence yet for the triggered star - formation theory. Scientists analyzing the photo have been able to sho

Nebula NGC 7635 in Cassiopee - Bubble Nebula (NGC 7635) in Cassiopeia - This nebula is located about 7100 years - light from Earth. A massive star, called Wolf - Rayet, is responsible for the formation of this bubble; it is the star BD+60* 2522. The Bubble Nebula in Cassiopeia is one of the most dramatic emission nebulae visible in the northern hemisphere. Lying at a distance of about 7,000 light - years away and spanning six light - years in diameter, NGC 7635 is quite bright with a magnitude of 7.0. The star in the middle of the bubble, BD+602522, is responsible for this stunning site, for this very hot star emits so much UV radiation that it is able to also heat and excite the surrounding dust and gas, thus emitting its own radiation. It is a Wolf - Rayet star, a very luminous star and also very short - lived. This Wolf - Rayet star is 40 times as massive than our sun

Nebula NGC 281 in Cassiopee - Nebula NGC 281 in Cassiopeia - NGC 281 is a star-forming region about 10,000 light years away from Earth in the constellation Cassiopee. At the center of this nebula is the cluster of stars IC 1590 whose stars are only a few million years old. NGC 281 is a busy workshop of star formation. Prominent features include a small open cluster of stars, a diffuse red - glowing emission nebula, large lanes of obscuring gas and dust, and dense knots of dust and gas in which stars may still be forming. The open cluster of stars IC 1590 visible around the center has formed only in the last few million years. The brightest member of this cluster is actually a multiple - star system shining light that helps ionize the nebula's gas, causing the red glow visible throughout. The lanes of dust visible below the center are likely homes of future star formation. The entire NGC 281 system lies about 10 thousand light years distant

Nebula NGC 7635 in Cassiopee - The Bubble Nebula: This nebula is located about 8000 light years from Earth. A star 40 times more massive than our Sun, called Wolf-Rayet, is responsible for the formation of this bubble; it is the star BD+60* 2522. Image obtained by the space telescope Hubble - The Bubble Nebula, also known as NGC 7635, is an emission nebula located 8 000 light-years away - This complete view of the Bubble Nebula allows us to fully appreciate the almost perfectly symmetrical shell which gives the nebula its name. This shell is the result of a powerful flow of gas - known as a stellar wind - from the bright star visible just to the left of centre in this image. The star, SAO 20575, is between ten and twenty times the mass of the Sun and the pressure created by its stellar wind forces the surrounding interstellar material outwards into this bubble-like form - The giant molecular cloud that surrounds the star - glowing in the star's intense ultraviolet radiation - tries to stop the expansion of the bubble. However, although the sphere already measures around ten light-years in diameter, it is still growing, owing to the constant pressure of the stellar wind - currently at more than 100,000 kilometers per hour! - This stunning new image was observed by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope

Constellation Cassiopee - The constellation of Cassiopeia - The constellation of Cassiopeia, the Queen, is seen in this wide - angle shot spanning a field of about 16 x 24 degrees. This bright section of the Milky Way is strewn with thousands of individual stars, star clouds, dark nebulae, red emission nebulae, and glittering star clusters. As we look at Cassiopeia, we are looking out into one of the outer arms of our own Milky Way galaxy, and away from the galaxy's center in Sagittarius. The Double Cluster in Perseus (NGC 884 and NGC 869) and the Double Nebulae (IC 1805 and LBN 667) are at upper right. NGC 281, another emission nebula, is near Schedar (Alpha Cassiopeiae). IC 59 and IC 63 are two small faint nebulae near Gamma Cassiopeia, in the center of the constellation. Another very large complex of red emission nebulae, Ced 214 and NGC 7822 lie near the center of the bottom of the frame, and open cluster NGC 7789 is to the left of Caph. Open cluster M52 and NGC 7635, the Bubble Nebula, are at lower left. In mythology, Cassiopeia was married to Cepheus, the King, Their daughter was Andromeda, and her rescuer was Perseus

Constellations of Andromede and Cassiopee - Andromeda and Cassiopeia constellations - Field around the constellations of Andromede and Cassiopee. From ancient times the constellation of Andromeda has represented a woman and in Greek mythology Andromeda was the daughter of Cepheus and Cassiopeia, king and boastful queen of the Phoenician kingdom of Ethiopia. As punishment for her mother's arrogance she was chained to a rock as a sacrifece to Cetus, then rescued by Perseus whom she subsequently married. The modern constellation is the 19th largest in the sky and covers about 720 square degrees but is not very obvious. The three brightest stars of Andromeda form a broad arc south of the distinctive 'W' of Cassiopeia, and under a dark sky the elongated shape of M32 is just visible to the unaided eye. This is by far the best - known object in the field. Best seen in the early evening in Novembe
