Apollo 11: Decollage of Saturn V - Apollo 11 launch July 16 1969 - Decollage of the Saturn V/Apollo 11 rocket. 16/07/1969. The huge, 363 - feet tall Apollo 11 (Spacecraft 107/Lunar Module 5/Saturn 506) space vehicle is launched from Pad A, Launch Complex 39, Kennedy Space Center (KSC), at 9:32 a.m. (EDT), July 16, 1969. Aboard the Apollo 11 spacecraft were astronauts Neil A. Armstrong, commander; Michael Collins, command module pilot; and Edwin E. Aldrin Jr., lunar module pilot. Apollo 11 is the United States' first lunar landing mission. This view of the liftoff was taken by a camera mounted on the mobile launch tower. While astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin descend in the Lunar Module (LM) “” Eagle””” to explore the Sea of Tranquility region of the moon, astronaut Collins will remain with the Command and Service Modules (CSM) “” Columbia””” in lunar orbit

Rocket Ariane 5 GS - 12/2009 - Ariane 5 GS liftoff - 12/2009 - Decolving the Ariane 5 GS rocket with the military satellite Helios - 2B on board. Flight V193 was launched on 18 December 2009. On 18 December 2009, an Ariane 5 GS launcher lifted off from Europe's Spaceport in English Guiana on a journey to place the French military reconnaissance satellite Helios - 2B into Sun - synchronous polar orbit. Flight V193 was the seventh Ariane 5 launch of 2009 and used the last of the GS variant of the launcher. Liftoff of the 49th Ariane 5 mission took place at 17:26 CET/Paris (16:26 UTC; 13:26 English Guiana). The satellite was accurately injected into its target orbit about 59 minutes later. The payload mass for this launch was 5954 kg; the satellite mass was 4200 kg, with payload adapters and dispensers making up the additional 1754 kg

European launchers - Illustration - European launch vehicles family in 2009 - Illustration - Artist's view of the various fusees used by the European Space Agency and launches from the Guyanese Space Centre. From left to right, the Vega launcher, Soyuz - ST, Ariane 5 ES ATV and Ariane 5 ECA. Artist view of the family of launchers to be operated on behalf of ESA from the Guiana Space Center, Europe's Spaceport, in Kourou, English Guiana. From left to right: Vega, ESA's new small launcher, is designed to loft single or multiple payloads to orbits up to 1,500 km in altitude. Satellite Planck. Illustration - Artist's view of the European satellite Planck separating from the upper floor of the Ariane V rocket, 30 minutes after its launch. This satellite measures temperature fluctuations in the fossil radiation of the primordial universe. Planck separates from upper stage. Planck separated from the launcher about 30 minutes after launch, a couple of minutes after Herschel. The two spacecraft independently headed towards their respective orbits around the second Lagrange point of the Sun - Earth system (L2), some 1.5 million km from Earth in the direction opposite to the Sun. Planck is the first european mission to study the relic radiation from the Big Bang. Ever since the detection of small fluctuations in the temperature of this radiation, called Cosmic Microwave Background, astronomers have used the fluctuations to understand both the origin of the Universe and the formation of galaxies

In 2010, a Soyuz launcher will take off from Europe's Spaceport in English Guiana. This will be an historic event as it will be the first time that a Soyuz is launched from a spaceport other than Baikonur or Plesetsk. It will also be a milestone in the strategic cooperation between Europe and Russia on launchers. The Soyuz launch vehicle that will be used at Europe's Spaceport is the Soyuz - 2 version called Soyuz - ST. This includes the Fregat upper stage and the ST fairing. Soyuz - 2 is the most recent version of the renowned family of Russian launchers that began the space race more than 50 years ago by launching Sputnik, the first satellite placed in orbit, and then sending the first man into space. Soyuz - 2 will have improved performance and be able to carry up to 3 tons into geostationary transfer orbit, compared to the 1.7 tons that can be launched from Baikonur, in Kazakhstan

Jupiter Icy Moon Explorer (JUICE) Probe - Artist's view - Jupiter Icy Moon Explorer or JUICE (formerly JGO and EJSM/Laplace) is a space mission of the European Space Agency to be launched in 2022 towards the moons of Jupiter by an Ariane 5 rocket. This space probe is to study by flying over them several times three of the ice moons of Jupiter - Callisto, Europe and Ganymede. The Jupiter iY moons Explorer (JUICE) is an interplanetary spacecraft in development by the European Space Agency (ESA). The mission is being developed to visit the Jovian system focused on studying three of Jupiter's Galilean moons: Ganymede, Callisto, and Europa all of which are thought to have significant bodies of liquid water beneath their surfaces, making them potentially habitable environments. The spacecraft is set for launch in 2022 and would reach Jupiter in 2030

Earth seen by satellite DSCOVR - Earth seen by satellite DSCOVR: Earth photo obtained by satellite Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) on July 6, 2015. This satellite, launched on 11 February 2015, and placed in orbit 1.6 million km, at the point of Lagrange L1 (about 4 times farther than the Moon's orbit), provides views of the Earth as a whole - The journey has been a long one for the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR). Once known as Triana, the satellite was conceived in 1998 to provide continuous views of Earth, to monitor the solar wind, and to measure fluctuations in Earth's albedo. The mission was put on hold in 2001, and the part-built satellite ended up in storage for several years with an uncertain future. In 2008, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), NASA, and the U.S. Air Force decided to refurbish and update the spacecraft for launch - On February 11, 2015, DSCOVR was finally lofted into space by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. After journey of about 1.6 million kilometers (1 million miles) to the L1 Lagrange Point, the satellite and its Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC) has returned its first view of the entire sunlit side of Earth. At L1-four times farther than the orbit of the Moon - the gravitational pull of the Sun and Earth cancel out, providing a stable orbit and a continuous view of Earth. The image above was made by combining information from Epic's red, green, and blue bands. (Bands are narrow regions of the electromagnetic spectrum to which a remote sensing instrument responds. When EPIC collects data, it takes a series of 10 images at different bands - from ultraviolet to near infrared.)

Maiden launch of Ariane 4, from the Ariane Launch Complex no.2 (ELA-2) at the Guiana Space Centre, Europe's space port, on June 15, 1988. On its first mission (V22), Ariane 4 flew in 44LP configuration, with four liquid and four solid boosters. Two primary payloads were successfully released in gestationary tansfer orbit (GTO): ESA's Meteosat P2 meteorological satellite and PanamSat 1, the first private international communication satellite. The Amsat 3C microsatellite was also flown piggyback and successfully deployed. The Ariane 44LP was the second most powerful version of the Ariane 4 series. Its initial payload capacity of 3,700 kg to GTO was eventually increased to 4,330 kg through a series of upgrades
