Star HD 189733 and nebula planetary Dumbbell (M27) - A star field with HD 189733 and Dumbell nebula - Image centree on the star HD 189733 located 63 years ago - light in the constellation Petite Fox. Astronomers discovered around this star an exoplanet (HD 189733b). This gas planet a little bigger than Jupiter is very close to its star; this type of planet is called hot Jupiter. We detected the presence of mists in his atmosphere. To the right of this star is the planetary nebula Dumbbell (M27) located about 1400 years from Earth. A planetary nebula is a gas shell from a small late-life star whose heart collapsed to become a white dwarf and expelled the outer layers of its matter. A star field image showing the star HD 189733 (centre) with Dumbell nebula. Orbiting close to its parent star, is an extrasolar planet, HD 189733b, a 'hot - Jupiter' type of gas giant slightly larger than Jupiter. The observations provide clear evidence of the presence of hazes in its atmosphere. To the right of the star is the notable planetary nebula Messier 27. The Dumbbell Nebula (M27, NGC6853), is a planetary nebula located about 1400 light years from the earth in the constellation of Vulpecula. The nebula was formed when an evolved, red giant star ejected its outer envelope near the end of its lifetime

On the evening of August 17- 18, 2005, two European astronomers simultaneously discovered a new star in the Dumbbell Nebula. This image is a portrait of the Dumbbell Nebula featuring the 2005 nova. It is comprised of thirty separate fifteen minute images digitally combined into a single picture that is equivalent to a single seven and a half hour exposure. Images taken through a 20 inch Ritchey-Chretien telescope and an eleven mega-pixel camera situated in New Mexico's south central mountains were supplemented with images gathered from San Jose, California with a twelve inch Dall-Kirkham Cassegrain reflector and a three mega-pixel SBIG camera -: Nebuleuse planetaire Dumbbell (M27) dans le Petite Fox - The Dumbell nebula with a nova 08-2005
Constellations of the Little Horse, Dauphin, Fleche and Petite Fox - Constellation of Equuleus and Vulpecula - At the top right, the constellation of the Little Fox, below, the Fleche, on the left, the Dolphin; at the bottom left, the Little Horse. Equuleus (the Little Horse or colt) is a small and undistinguished constellation located about 10 degrees north of the celestial equator. It is the second smallest constellation in the sky: only Crux is smaller. It contains no bright stars, so, unlike Crux, it is difficult to find, though Delphinus is a useful guide. There is little of astronomical interest here that is accessible to small telescopes. Vulpecula, the Fox, first appears in Johannes Hevelius' atlas of 1690 and was originally called Vulpecula Cum Anser, the fox with goose, but the bird has flown and the fox is hardly obvious. The constellation crosses part of the northern Milky Way and lies just south of Cygnus. The main stars of Sagitta are also well seen here

Artist's view of the Exoplanet HD 189733b - Artist's impression of exoplanet HD 189733b - Artist's view of the Exoplanet HD 189733b, a hot Jupiter (gas-like planet very close to its star), in front of its star. HD 189733b was discovered in 2005 in the constellation Little Fox. We discovered water vapor and methane in his atmosphere. Artist's impression of the extrasolar planet HD 189733b, now known to have methane and water. Astronomers used the Hubble Space Telescope to detect methane - - the first organic molecule found on an extrasolar planet. Hubble also confirmed the presence of water vapour in the Jupiter - size planet's atmosphere, a discovery made in 2007 with the help of the Spitzer Space Telescope. They made the finding by studying how light from the host star filters through the planet's atmosphere
Artist's view of the Exoplanet HD 189733b - Exoplanet HD 189733b - Artist's view of the transit of the Exoplanet HD 189733b, a hot Jupiter (gas-like planet very close to its star), in front of its star. HD 189733b was discovered in 2005 in the constellation Little Fox. Using the Hubble space telescope, astronomers have detected carbon dioxide and monoxide in the atmosphere of this planet. Previously, methane and water vapour had already been detected in his atmosphere. But with a surface temperature of over 900 degrees, this planet remains too hot to shelter life. This is an artist's impression of the Jupiter - size extrasolar planet, HD 189733b, being eclipsed by its parent star. Astronomers using the Hubble Space Telescope have measured carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide in the planet's atmosphere. The planet is a “” hot Jupiter,””” which is so close to its star that it completes an orbit in only 2.2 days. The planet is too hot for life as we know it. But under the right conditions, on a more Earth - like world, carbon dioxide can indicate the presence of extraterrestrial life. This observation demonstrates that chemical biotracers can be detected by space telescope observations
Open cluster CR 399 in Little Fox - The Coathanger (CR 399) in Vulpecula - The Hanger cluster or Brocchi cluster is not a true cluster of stars but an asterism in the constellation Little Fox. Image obtained by the Oschin telescope of 1.2m of Mount Palomar through several filters and composed. Cr 399, Brocchi's Cluster, is also known as the “” Coathanger””. It is a distinctive asterism, but not a true star cluster. It is visible to the unaided eye off the head of Cygnus, the Swan in Vulpecula, and resolved into its namesake shape in a telescope or pair of binoculars. Image from Oschin telescope of Palomar observatory
Constellations of the Little Horse, Dauphin, Fleche and Petite Fox - Constellation of Equuleus and Vulpecula - At the top right, the constellation of the Little Fox, below, the Fleche, on the left, the Dolphin; at the bottom left, the Little Horse. The constellation crosses part of the northern Milky Way and lies just south of Cygnus. The main stars of Sagitta are also well seen here
Swan Constellation - Cygnus constellation - On the right, the bright star is Vega, in the constellation Lyra. Also visible are the constellations of the Fleche and the Petite Fox. Cygnus (the Swan), is clearly the bird flying along the northern Milky Way. Many legends refer to this distinctive constellation, including that of Zeus who disguised himself as a swan while visiting Leda, wife of the King of Sparta. This union resulted in Pollux, one of the heavenly twins. English legends see here the more prosaic outline of a flying hen in this part of the sky. Because Cygnus is in the Milky Way, it is rich in Galactic objects that are visible in binoculars and modest telescopes, notable are the enormous North America Nebula (NCG 7000) and the faint shreds of the Veil nebula, a supenova remnant that covers a patch of sky five times larger than the full Moon. Vulpecula (the Fox) is a faint constellation created by Johannes Hevelius, who called it Vulpecula Cum Anser, the Fox and Goose. Anser is the only named star in an otherwise undistinguished part of the sky
The Hanger and Nebula SH2 - 83 - Coathanger and nebula SH2 - 83 in Vulpecula - The Hanger cluster or Brocchi cluster (left) is not a true cluster of stars but an asterism located in the constellation of Little Fox. Towards the center of the image, a small nebula emitted, Sh2 - 83. Little Fox Constellation. Brocchi's Cluster (also known as the Coathanger or Collinder 399) is an asterism located in the constellation Vulpecula. It was first described by the Persian astronomer Al Sufi in his Book of Fixed Stars in 964 and was independently rediscovered by Giovanni Hodierna in the seventeenth century. In the 1920s, D. F. Brocchi, an amateur astronomer and chart maker for the American Association of Variable Star Observers, created a map of this object for use in calibrating photometers. The asterism is made up of ten stars ranging from fifth to seventh magnitude which form the conspicuous Coathanger, a straight line of six stars with a “” hook””” of four stars on the south side. An additional thirty or so fainter stars are sometimes considered to be associated as well. Under a dark sky, Brocchi's Cluster can be seen with the naked eye as an unresolved patch of light; binoculars or a telescope at very low power are usually needed in order to view the “” coathanger””” asterism. It is best found by slowly sweeping across the Milky Way along an imaginary line from the bright star Altair towards the even brighter star Vega. About one third of the way toward Vega, the Coathanger should be spotted easily against a darker region of the Milky Way. The status of this group as a star cluster has changed in recent years. The main stars were cataloged as an open cluster by Per Collinder in 1931, and the group was considered to be a cluster for most of the twentieth century. Looking at a variety of criteria, however, a study in 1970 concluded that only six of the brightest stars formed an actual cluster. Several independent studies since 1998 have now determined that t

CR 399, Brocchi's Cluster, is also known as the “” Coathanger””. It is a distinctive asterism, but not a true star cluster. It is visible to the unaided eye off the head of Cygnus, the Swan in Vulpecula, and resolved into its namesake shape in a telescope or pair of binoculars

Eagle and Fleche Constellations - Aquila and Sagitta constellations - The brightest star of this constellation is Altair. It is one of the brightest stars in the night sky. It is the center of an almost perfect alignment of three stars and is located about 16 years - light from the Sun. Above the small constellation of the Fleche. Aquila (the Eagle) well represents a mythological bird that was the companion of Jupiter. It lies in the northern Milky Way and contans rich fields of stars particularly in the western half and into adjoining Scutum. The brightest star in the constellation is Altair (Arabic for flying eagle), which is at one corner of the Summer Triangle (Altair, Deneb and Vega). Sagitta (the Arrow) is the third smallest constellation in the sky, and although it contains no bright stars, was well known to the ancient Greeks. Its arrow seems directed through Vulpecula and Pegasus towards Andromeda, skirting Cygnus. These constellations are a little north of the celestial equator and can be seen from all inhabited parts of the planet. Best seen in the early evening in Augus

Planetary nebula M 27 (NGC 6853) in the little fox - This excellent image of the Dumbbell Nebula (M27, NGC6853), a planetary nebula in the constellation of Vulpecula, was taken at the 3.5 - meter WIYN telescope using the mini - mosaic imager. The nebula was formed when an evolved, red giant star ejected its outer envelope near the end of its lifetime. The expanding cloud of gas becomes visible once the hot core of the star, visible near the center, is exposed and the high - energy, ultraviolet light from the core ionizes the cloud. This makes the nebula emit mostly a strong emission - line spectrum. This color image was obtained by combining three separate pictures, each one taken through a narrow filter centered at the emission wavelengths of Hydrogen (H alpha, red, 656 nm), doubly ionized Oxygen (OII, green, 501 nm), and neutral Oxygen (OI, blue, 630 nm). It is physically very interesting that neutral gas can survive in a region right next to highly ionized gas, and this image shows how, as the blue component is concentrated in very dense clumps which act to protect the neutral oxygen from the intense ultraviolet radiation which has ionized the other gas components. The Dumbbell nebula is about 850 light - years away from Earth and about 1.5 light - years in diameter
Part of the constellation Swan - Cygnus Milky Way - The constellation Swan dominates the richest part of the Lactee Way during the summer in the northern hemisphere. The large nebula broadcast IC 1396 in Cephee is visible to the extreme left of the image. The large dark nebula Le Gentil 3 is visible between IC 1396 and NGC 7000, the Nebula of North America, next to Deneb (the brightest star in this picture). Underneath, a smaller dark nebula, B168. The constellation of Cygnus, the Swan, dominates the richest part of the Milky Way in the sky overhead during the summer in the northern hemisphere. This beautiful area is full of dust and gas and star froming regions. The large red emission nebula IC 1396 in Cepheus is at the far left of the frame. The large dark nebula Le Gentil 3 is between IC 1396 and NGC 7000, the North America Nebula next to Deneb. A smaller dark nebula, B168, can be seen below. Another large area of emission nebulae containing IC 1318, the Butterfly Nebula, surrounds Sadr. NGC 6992, the brighter half of the Veil Nebula is faintly visible near the bottom center. The beautiful double star Albireo lies at the head of the Swan.
