'In these sheets analysis of Rise I have retraced my steps./ Naturally paintings flow one out of another- things that/ may be suitable in one pictorial context, dictated by / one particular feeling, may be unsuitable in another. / I have included reflected aspects as well as those selected./ the entire painting was governed by the sensation of an/ upward movement gathering momentum, but veiled by an/ an overall/ all embracing/ rhythm' on top left in pencil. 'The three possible juxtapositions; equal proportions/ the orange being so much stronger acts as a / point of indicative - a leader of the other two colours' on bottom left in pencil. 'Proportions adjusted: to give the weaker colours more presence/ the leading edge takes the eye upwards- a rising sensation.' on centre right in pencil.
